This stage of EuroVelo 6 counts three exciting capitals that are worth a visit on their own. After leaving the cultural centre of Vienna and passing through the prairies and forests in Eastern Austria, you will enter Bratislava, the friendly Slovak capital with enjoyable wines and preserved medieval city walls. The route continues on the canalised Danube, crossing the Hungarian border. You can visit the wine producing town of Tata and the baroque towns of Visegrad, Vac and Szentendre. The stage ends in Budapest, home to a beautiful ancient city centre, numerous spas, and flamboyant architecture.
Please note: the ferry connection between Szob and Pilismarót is currently not operating, but a new bridge between Chľaba and Ipolydamásd now connects Slovakia and Hungary. Using this new bridge, an alternative route from Esztergom to Párkány had been designed through Esztergom, Sturovo, Kamenica nad Hronom, Chľaba and Szob. From Szob, you can continue your journey on the signposted EuroVelo 6 as usual. If you would ride from Esztergom to Pilismarót and Visegrád, you must take the busy main road No. 11.
