From Nantes to Pamplona, this 1000+ km stage invites you on a fascinating journey along the Atlantic coast before diving into the heart of the Basque Country. Your adventure begins in Nantes, in the City of the Dukes of Brittany, where the extraordinary mechanical Elephant of Les Machines de l'Île salutes you with its trunk. Next, head to the Vendée region, where you can admire the spectacular Passage du Gois, a unique road submerged twice daily by the tides (but avoid cycling it!).
La Rochelle welcomes you with its majestic towers guarding the Old Port, before you venture into the prestigious Médoc vineyards. The Arcachon Bay offers a magnificent spectacle with Europe's highest sand dune, the Dune du Pilat, and its picturesque cabanes tchanquées (stilted cabins). Crossing the Landes region immerses you in a unique atmosphere, between endless pine forests and trendy surf villages.
Approaching the Basque Country marks a striking change of scenery: villages with white and red facades, Espelette peppers drying on house fronts, possible ascent of the mythical La Rhune mountain... Finally arriving in Pamplona, jewel of Navarre, where the fortified old town welcomes you with typical Spanish warmth.
