Step-by-step guides to routes 1 and 11 on the Estonian cycling portal.
Estonia, the northernmost of the Baltic states, is among the least densely populated countries in Europe and boasts some beautiful natural landscapes. The Iron Curtain Trail follows the Estonian National Route 1 along the Baltic coast, apart from a 'shortcut' – avoiding the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa – where instead it follows national route 11 through the Matsalu nature reserve. The Iron Curtain Trail also visits the country’s capital, Tallinn, of which the old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This brochure is ideal for a better understanding of the history of the countries which were separated by the Iron Curtain. The brochure provides overview maps and descriptions of the stages, as well as the history of the countries and a presentation of the major points of interest.
This guide covers Finland and the Baltic Sea Coast. The maps in the revised edition are scaled larger at 1:120,000 from Helsinki to Riga, and from Grense Jakobselv to Vaalimaa it remains at 1:400,000. This volume describes the 3700-kilometre-long part of the route from the Barents Sea to Riga.
