Dotted with ancient churches and beautiful castles, EuroVelo 5 enters Tuscany through the charming Cisa pass, taking you to Pontremoli, where you can visit a famous museum featuring megalithic statues. Then, in Ligury region, you will enter lovely towns like Sarzana and the national archeological site of Luni, before cycling along the popular Versilia coast. This stage demands enough fitness to climb 1000m in a day but the effort can be replaced by a train connection between Fornovo and Pontremoli. Visit artistic towns like Parma, or Fidenza with its impressive Romanesque-style Cathedral, whose façade is a sculpted celebration of pilgrimage.
