All roads lead to Rome, and this is true of EuroVelo 5. Towns and villages will welcome traveling cyclists in this stage, offering a wide range of historical perspectives, mixing ancient, roman, medieval and modern history and culture. The Latium countryside will be a pleasant surprise, with its extended network of secondary roads, carved into the ground since Etruscan times, all surrounded by olive trees, vegetable gardens and vineyards. The entrance to Rome, through the city’s longest cycle path, is a sight that has been marvelled at for millennia, and will let the cyclist emerge just next to Saint Peter’s Basilica, centre of the Catholic world.
