EuroVelo 5 in France is in two parts. First you can meander through the north, from Calais to to Saint Omer, an attractive cathedral town of wide streets and spacious squares. The itinerary will next bring you to Lille, former European capital of culture. Second you can return to France along canals to Strasbourg, famous for its many historical sites and cultural attractions, as well for housing the European Parliament. You will then leave the city and join the Alsace wine road cycle route, which will take you through around a hundred villages, each famous for their world class wine and viticulture.
