EuroVelo 7 Sun Route

Finland

EuroVelo 7 crosses only a very small portion of Finland, between Norway and Sweden, part of Finnish Lapland, the largest and northernmost region in Finland, and where the ‘mythical’ Santa Claus is said to hail from. It follows National Route 93 between Tarvantovaara ödemarksområde park and Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area, and then the European Route E8 along the Swedish border, visiting Karesuvanto and Karesuando. One small community, split down the middle by a river and the Finnish/Swedish border. Linked by a road bridge built in 1980, the area is traditionally Finnish and Sami speaking although cultural and linguistic divisions grew after the Finnish War of 1809.

Development status

It may also contain dangerous sections. Cyclists are advised to use public transportation to skip these non-developed stretches.
