From East to West, EuroVelo 1 crosses the Algarve in its entirety, from the Spanish border to Sagres; following over 200 kilometres of coastline! EuroVelo 1 - Atlantic Coast Route in Portugal has something to suit everybody; from sheltered dunes to rocky coves; from tiny bays to vast stretches of open sandy beach; from shallow lagoons to the wild crashing surf of the Atlantic Ocean. Blessed with over 300 days of sunshine a year, the Algarve also offers the perfect climate to complement its spectacular shoreline.

Development status
  • Certified Section of at least 300 km that has successfully undergone the certification process in line with ECF’s European Certification Standard. It is the highest quality level on the EuroVelo network

National EuroVelo Coordination Centre

FPCUB aims to protect the environment by promoting the bicycle as a sustainable means of mobility (as well as protecting the security of its users). It also seeks to develop the practice of ecological cycling for leisure, fitness and tourism, including the EuroVelo routes, by promoting it both nationally and internationally. Founded in September 1987, FPCUB is a NGO working at a national level and it is a member of the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF).
